Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs)
A Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) is a legal contract in which the customer agrees to have a photovoltaic (PV) system installed on their roof or another place on their property, and the solar services provider owns, runs, maintains, and monitors the PV system. For a fixed period of time, the customer additionally pays the solar services provider for the power production of the system.
Usually, the cost of purchasing the generated electricity is less than what the host customer would otherwise have to pay their retailer for retail electricity. The PPA rates have two options: either they are fixed, or they have an annual price escalator between 2.0% and 4.0%.
